Read to Me Please!

Morning

"Reading gives us somewhere to go when we have to stay where we are." - Mason Cooley

Where does reading aloud take you? Does your audience go right there with you? Are you so present with the ideas that they resonate with clarity, realness, and vitality? Our curriculum will spring from your responses to these questions and what you want to learn and practice. Well before camp begins I will seek out your specific interests.

Maybe you want to bring more understanding and grace to reading at church. Perhaps you enjoy acting and want to read scripts with ease. Whether you're keen to enliven a business report, or bring a story alive for a child, this class will awaken your sense of poise, transparency, and grace in your reading aloud. We will explore how to listen, focus, visualize, breathe, trust, relax, and allow your voice free range. We also just may discover some surprises along the way!

As you get thought off yourself and into the ideas you read, believability and understanding will characterize your reading. Without concerns about artifice or overdramatizing, you will see how clarity and animation flow easily. And the gift of poise will wrap you and your listeners up in the joy of naturalness. This class will be a time of fun exploration as we address your aims, and you will learn from one another what makes for nourishing and engaging reading aloud.
